Sometimes the summer end comes to us gradually, little by little. Day after day the sun rises up to the skies a bit more sluggishly and says goodbye in order to start the morning in the other world side a bit earlier. But sometimes autumn sets in all at once, as if somebody had switched a lever. Just like if a theatre manager would find that somebody spilled a jam jar on the summer stage decorations and claimed for an immediate change of a summer swelter to an autumn rainfall right in the next day's play.

Бывает, что лето заканчивается постепенно. День за днём солнце поднимается на небосклон чуточку ленивее, да и прощается, чтобы начать утро на соседнем полушарии, чуточку раньше. А бывает, что осень наступает внезапно, будто кто-то рычаг переключил. Будто заведующий в театре объявил, что на летние декорации пролили банку варенья, и потребовал без промедлений сменить в прямо завтрашнем спектакле летний зной на осенний ливень.

That is how it happened here. Weather forecasters predicted air temperature decrease "starting next week" and here you are -- it truly happened last Monday (or one week before it?). And to leave no doubt to anyone, temperature lowered right off by 15 degrees Celsius.

Вот так и у нас -- синоптики предсказали "похолодание со следующей недели", и оно честно началось с прошлого (или уже позапрошлого?) понедельника. И чтобы ни у кого не осталось сомнений в происходящем -- температура понизилась сразу на 15 градусов.

You will need yarn of three colours.
For my work I used three shades of Alize Bella cotton yarns:
A -- Fuchsia;
B -- Purple;
C -- White.

This is a pretty easy pattern for a nice crocheted flower. I used it to decorate cardigan for my little Marge.

Это достаточно простая схема симпатичного вязаного крючком цветочка. Я использовала его в качестве украшения к кофточке для нашей маленькой Маргоши.

You will need yarn of three colours:
B -- bright basic colour for the flower midst
A -- bright alternative colour for the second row of petals
L -- light (white or cream looks very good) colour for the first row of petals

Для цветка понадобится пряжа трёх цветов:
Б -- яркий основной (базовый) цвет для серединки цветочка;
А -- альтернативный (можно контрастный) цвет для второго ряда лепестков;
С -- светлый (можно белый, или кремовый) для первого ряда лепестков.

I used Alize Bella cotton yarns: Indigo, Red and Cream colours.

Я использовала хлопковую пряжу Alize Bella. Цвета: "Indigo", "Red" и "Cream".

Start with colour B.
1) Chain 4, slip stitch to make a ring.
Chain 1 and work 5 SC into the ring, slip stitch into the first chain-1.

Sharing a pattern for a one-peace wrap cardigan for my baby-girl

Finally, Marge can try her new short-sleeve cardigan in the colours of a red poppy and a blue knapweed field! As I wrote in a previous post, I've searched for a nice and not so common pattern for a baby-girl cardigan, but haven't found any, and decided to design one by myself. It came out so nice and work on it was so enjoyable, that it would be just wrong to keep the pattern within myself rather than share it.

Also I would be really happy to hear that someone used this pattern and managed to make this cardigan. So, if you intend to try this, please, take a picture of a result and share it with me!

This is a rather easy pattern of a beautiful one-peace wrap cardigan for a little baby girl.
Marge is two month old now and 62 cm long. This cardigan is a bit larger size. But you can make your own measurements and crochet cardigan of any size you need. I'll explain you, how.

The whole work consists of 4 stages:
1) after taking measurements, crochet a shoulders part (I'm not sure about professional terminology, so I'll just call it "shoulders part"). It is very similar to crocheting a granny square, only without it's center;
2) crochet a waist band;
3) crochet body part;
4) edging.

First of all, you should take some measurements. The easiest way to do this is to take any of your baby's tops (I took Marge's sleeper) and measure it. What you need is to measure the width of a neck hole (N), bust width (W) and sleeve aperture depth (S).

As you can see (you can click on the pictures to get a larger view), I've got N = 11 cm, W = 26 cm and S = 10 cm.

Now count Z = (W - N) / 2 and BC segment length as (S - Z) * 2.

CD segment length equals N and DE equals BC.

I've got Z = 7.5 cm, CD = 11 cm, DE and BC = 5 cm.

I'll refer to the mark up of this scheme further.

Pattern of a crocheted hat with flower for a girl

All of a sudden a heat wave came across Riga.  But it won't prevent me from sharing a pattern of Veronika's new hat.

My daughter wanted a hat with a flower, so I crocheted one nice flower too. I used Indigo colour from my favorite Alize Bella cotton yarns to make the hat fit daughter's blue coat.

But before I start, some pics of today: a morning after the first thunderstorm in Latvia this year. Air after the rain became moist and warm.

Back to the pattern, I drew a scheme (pictures can be clicked for a large picture), but to be on the safe side, I wrote it down too.

So, here goes the pattern of a crochet hat for a 5-year old girl (head diameter 50 cm (19.5 inch)).

 Pattern 

• st = stitch
• ch = chain
• sc = single crochet
• dc = double crochet
• hdc = half double crochet
• sl st = slip stitch
• rep = repeat

Start with colour "Acid".
1) Chain 4 and join with a slip stitch to make a ring.
2) Chain 2,  work 11 dc into the ring, sl st into 2d ch of initial chain-2.
