Marge is 7!

Marge turned 7 months old last week. Just some quick facts about her.

Маргоше исполнилось 7 месяцев неделю назад. Несколько коротеньких фактов о ней.

We call her a bun at home.

Дома мы зовём её плюшкой.

I have the camera, she has the strap.

У меня -- фотоаппарат, у неё -- лента на шею.

Agreed to look at the world from her stroller for a few times again.

Согласилась чуть-чуть посмотреть на мир из коляски пару раз.

Moves. Moves fast. Moves back, moves forward.

Передвигается. Быстро. Назад и вперёд.

Totally mom's girl. But agrees to walk with her dad too.

Абсолютно мамин ребёнок. Но погулять согласна и с папой.

Hates her snow suit.

Терпеть не может свой зимний комбинезон.

Loves to touch my hair. Especially when going to sleep.

Обожает трогать мои волосы. Особенно, когда засыпает.

Loves huges and kisses from all of the family.

Любит нежности, принимает их с одинаковым удовольствием и от мамы с папой, и от сестёр с братом.

Has five teeth in her mouth: both lower central incisors, one lower lateral incisor, both upper lateral incisors.

Во рту у Марго пять зубов. Три резца снизу, и оба боковых сверху.

Doesn't sit by herself yet.

Сама пока ещё не сидит.

Doesn't eat anything but milk yet.

Продолжает питаться исключительно молоком.

Likes swinging on her knees.

Любит раскачиваться стоя на своих коленках.

Loves to take a bath and go for a walk.

Любит купаться и гулять.

Six-months anniversary of our little girl!

Нашей малыше пол годика!

Guess who's here six-months old? Hooray for our little baby-girl Marge!

Угадайте, кому только что исполнилось шесть месяцев? Ура нашей маленькой девочке Маргошине-горошине!

She grew and changed a lot over the past month. We overcame her first illness. It was just an ordinary cold but it was new to her, I might say it was scarring for her, and totally deprived her and eventually us of sleep.

Марго сильно повзрослела за последний месяц. Позади первая болезнь. Ничего страшного, всего лишь небольшая простуда, но для Марго это было что-то совершенно новое, непонятное и пугающее переживание.

And then, one day I had that one of the coolest moments with baby when you return into the room and don't find your baby where you had left him, because the non-moving-up-till-now baby crawled to the other side of the room! As for Marge, she doesn't particularly crawl, she rotates her body in the direction that she wants to take and then she moves backwards which is completely the opposite of her intentions!

А потом как-то раз, у нас произошёл этот чудесный момент, когда, возвращаясь в комнату, не находишь малыша там, где его оставил, потому что не передвигающийся до той поры малыш пропутешествовал через всю комнату на другую сторону! Что касается Маргоши -- не то, чтобы она уже ползала. Она умело вращается вокруг своей оси, принимая желаемое направление, а затем двигается ровно в противоположном направлении, потому что при отталкивании ручками получается только движение назад.

Raverly and Photographer's Workshop

Last friday was the Raverly day for me. As I found there a nice pattern to knit a cardigan for Marge, I decided that it's time to acknowledge and get accustomed to this huge resource. I spent a few hours organising my stash there, adding my newly bought skeins and starting a new project. And it really finally kicked me in! I was absolutely delighted by the yarn database that knows even the yarns I bought in a local shop here in Riga. Moreover, I got a nice side effect from this -- my knowledge base about yarns grew a lot as a result. Now I know what does ply number mean and how to measure wpi (wraps per inch). Also I've become a bit more competent in yarn weights and it's all in one day! It's a really cool place for knitters, crocheters and other yarn crafts lovers.

Это произошло в прошлую пятницу. Промотивировавшись чьими-то достижениями на Raverly.com и тем фактом, что там нашлась инструкция по вязанию совершенно замечательной кофточки для Маргоши, я наконец решила потратить часок и освоиться там. Для начала "заполнила" свой "запас" новыми клубочками, а заодно сразу создала проект для будущей кофты. И... довольно быстро втянулась! Во-первых, база данных по ниткам -- это абсолютное восхищение! Там нашлись даже нитки, купленные мною здесь, в Риге. К тому же, практически сразу произошёл приятный побочный эффект -- уровень моих знаний о пряже резко подскочил вверх, ведь надо же было разобраться, что это за число такое 'ply' и как измеряют 'wpi' (wrap per inch). И всё это за один день! Это действительно классное место для любителей повязать!

Marge's cardigan has almost been knitted. I wouldn't normally choose such a big (as for a non-knitter) project for me, but all of the raverly inspiration did the job! I took a lot of pictures during the process in a case I would like to repeat the success, what can be seen on my raverly profile here.

Маргошина кофточка почти довязана. Обычно я не берусь за такие большие (для меня как для человека, который берётся за спицы крайне редко) проекты, но вдохновение, полученное на raverly, сработало! There is one more thing that makes me very happy this week -- Karen's Russell Photographers' Workshop has started yesterday and I'm in (as auditing student though)! See the banner on the right panel? I like a lot what's happening there so far. I'm planning to be committed to the course as much as I can with a little baby in one hand and hoping to get a lot from there as a photographer. I feel like my dreams are coming true! And here is what past students say about this workshop!

На этой неделе наступило ещё одно радостное событие -- вчера начался долгожданный мною воркшоп фотографии у Карен Расселл, и я принимаю участие!! Видите новый банер справа? Это только начало, впереди ещё 8 недель, но мне уже очень нравится то, что там происходит! Я планирую максимально, насколько это возможно с малышкой в одной руке, вложиться и, соответственно, получить назад. Ощущение сбывающейся мечты, не меньше. А здесь можно посмотреть работы и мысли по поводу этого воркшопа тех, кому уже посчастливилось там участвовать!

Marge is five moths old!

Нашей малыше пять месяцев!

Time flies by, our littlest girl is five months old. As I did it before, I' m going to share development milestones reached by Marge this month.

Время летит, и нашей малышечке уже пять месяцев. Так же, как и в прошлые разы, опишу этапы развития, пройденные Марго за этот месяц.

Now that she has trained her skill of rolling to her tummy, she prefers to sleep on it. That being said, she still doesn't feel delighted with her tummy time when being awake.

Маргоша окончательно освоила переворот на живот и теперь предпочитает спать именно так. Однако же, лежание на животе во время бодрствования до сих пор не приводит её в желаемый мною восторг.

Marge is four months old!

Маргоше четыре месяца!

In the blink of an eye Marge got four months old.

Не успели мы и глазом моргнуть, а Маргоше уже четыре месяца.

The nicest of her new skills she mastered this month is giggling. She giggles when somebody tries to kiss her neck, giggles while listening to me singing for her the song about grasshopper (obviously, she finds some of it's sounds funny). She giggled once during our peek-a-boo play (I was holding Marge in front of a mirror and made her see me and then stepped away from the mirror). She likes that girl in the mirror a lot, that's for sure!

Наверно, самое радующее из её ново-приобретённых умений -- это хихиканье. Она хихикает, когда кто-то пытается поцеловать её возле шеи, хихикает, когда я пою ей про кузнечика ("представьте себе, представьте себе"). Как-то раз она хихикала, когда мы с ней у зеркала играли в "ку-ку" (я держала Маргошу перед зеркалом и то подходила, то отходила). Что не оставляет сомнений, так это то, что маленькая девочка в зеркале ей очень нравится!

As our little girl was growing older, she started grabbing things and it was the best time to make for her a mobile. I searched for ideas through Pinterest and Google, but absolutely nothing was found that could catch my eye. Then one day I noticed that Marge likes to observe a crocheted flower in her cardigan and the idea was born. It was decided to make a few crocheted rattles with flowers on top covering plastic egg containers.

Каждой подрастающей малышке нужен красивый мобиль. К сожалению, Pinterest и Google совершенно не помогли мне в качестве вдохновения. Зато в один прекрасный день я обратила внимание, что Маргоше нравится смотреть на вязаный цветочек на её кофточке, и тогда родилась идея. Было решено составить мобиль из вязаных погремушек с разноцветными и контрастными цветочками наверху. В качестве основы для погремушек привычно использовать пластмассовые яйца-контейнеры от Киндера.

Our daughter is three month old!

It's unbelievable, but Marge is already three month old!

Marge is sleeping well at nights most of the times. The house is, by and large, clean, clothes are washed. Kids are fed, combed and dressed. In other words, life here has totally returned to normal by now.

Marge has mastered how to touch things with her hands. She doesn't hold her head steady enough by herself yet, but she started raising it and curiously looking around when laying on her tummy during past two weeks.

Marge doesn't like sleeping for a long time during the day. It seems, there are too much interesting things for her that are happening around. And she is just afraid of missing something. But it's not a big problem for me, because my older daughters entertain her a lot with pleasure (really, I don't have to ask at all!). Besides, she doesn't mind (I would even say "enjoys") laying on the floor and watching us moving around the house.

Marge doesn't roll over yet. She lays on her back and is fully content of everything.

Weather forecasters have promised unusually warm summer for Latvia, but it seems, they've mistaken again. After two weeks of a very strong wind outside it started to pour every day and temperature lowered to the point when it is appropriate to wear coats and hats. Frankly speaking, I prefer a bit chillier weather now, because it's very hard to stand muggy air and sweaty body when you need to be skin to skin with a baby. However, wind and rain, of course, are superfluous.

Though, I'm delighted by the glory of those fabulous clouds we see every evening!

Доченьке уже три месяца!

Абсолютно не верится, но нашей Марго уже три месяца!

Наша девочка чаще всего хорошо спит по ночам. Дом в целом чист, бельё постирано. Дети умыты, накормлены, причёсаны и одеты. Иными словами, наша жизнь на данный момент уже успела вернуться в свою колею, и Маргоша в неё отлично вписалась.

Последнее из малышкиных достижений -- трогать ладошками вещи (ей ужасно нравятся рельефные обои на стенке возле пеленального столика). Голову она пока держит не уверена, но зато очень старается поднять её повыше, лёжа на животика. Вокруг всё слишком интересно и явно стоит поднятой головы.

Проснувшись после ночного сна, Маргоша в течение дня спит совсем по немногу. Словно боится пропустить что-нибудь интересное. Но такой её короткий сон, пока она сама чувствует себя выспавшейся и довольной жизнью, меня не беспокоит. Её старшие сёстры с большим удовольствием и, что самое приятное, по собственной инициативе её занимают. К тому же, она совершенно не против (я бы даже сказала, что ей нравится) лежать самостоятельно на полу и наблюдать за нами, пока мы занимаемся своими делами вокруг неё.

Маргоша пока ещё не переворачивается -- она лежит на спинке, и, похоже, её всё настолько устраивает, что ей просто не приходит в голову такая идея.

Синоптики, наобещавшие нам "аномально жаркое лето", похоже, не изменили своим обычаям и опять ошиблись. Погода сменилась с ветренной на дождливую, и теперь снова уместно одевать на улицу куртки и шапки. Но, честно говоря, для меня так даже лучше. Душный воздух и липкое тело особенно тяжело переносить, когда на руках постоянно малыш. Но всё же, ветер и дождь, конечно, это чересчур.

Зато, несмотря на то, что днём погода могла бы быть, мягко говоря, и получше, каждый вечер радует глаз красивейшим небом с очень живописными облаками!

Sharing a pattern for a one-peace wrap cardigan for my baby-girl

Finally, Marge can try her new short-sleeve cardigan in the colours of a red poppy and a blue knapweed field! As I wrote in a previous post, I've searched for a nice and not so common pattern for a baby-girl cardigan, but haven't found any, and decided to design one by myself. It came out so nice and work on it was so enjoyable, that it would be just wrong to keep the pattern within myself rather than share it.

Also I would be really happy to hear that someone used this pattern and managed to make this cardigan. So, if you intend to try this, please, take a picture of a result and share it with me!

This is a rather easy pattern of a beautiful one-peace wrap cardigan for a little baby girl.
Marge is two month old now and 62 cm long. This cardigan is a bit larger size. But you can make your own measurements and crochet cardigan of any size you need. I'll explain you, how.

The whole work consists of 4 stages:
1) after taking measurements, crochet a shoulders part (I'm not sure about professional terminology, so I'll just call it "shoulders part"). It is very similar to crocheting a granny square, only without it's center;
2) crochet a waist band;
3) crochet body part;
4) edging.

First of all, you should take some measurements. The easiest way to do this is to take any of your baby's tops (I took Marge's sleeper) and measure it. What you need is to measure the width of a neck hole (N), bust width (W) and sleeve aperture depth (S).

As you can see (you can click on the pictures to get a larger view), I've got N = 11 cm, W = 26 cm and S = 10 cm.

Now count Z = (W - N) / 2 and BC segment length as (S - Z) * 2.

CD segment length equals N and DE equals BC.

I've got Z = 7.5 cm, CD = 11 cm, DE and BC = 5 cm.

I'll refer to the mark up of this scheme further.

You will need yarn of three colours.
I used Turkish cotton yarn Alize Bella of a red, coral and cream colour in my work.
