Fall

Fall is already on it`s halfway here in Latvia. Thanks to a few sunny days kids had a time of their lives playing with leaves.

Anastasia and the Hot Tea

The next day after this we had an opportunity to visit the playground again. I kept in mind that the last time we were there I had a strong desire to have some hot tea, so I took with me a thermos.

Kids and the Playground.

As you probably have already understood, there is going to be a lot of photos in the nearest future. This time the occasion is a new playground in our woods. Our city has some big plans on restoring local recreation areas. The playground in our woods was built within this program. My kids where thrilled to explore every corner of it! We knew that we are not alone in our desire to check this new equipment and new cobweb swings, so we decided to get there in early morning hours.

The Photographer's Workshop -- LOVE it!

Since the photographer's workshop that I 'm participating in has started, I have totally lost myself in photography. All of the time that was usually spent on my blog feed reading is fully dedicated to the lessons and completing the assignments now. And, truth to be told, I LOVE it! If I go for a walk, my camera goes with me. My girls were trying to pose for the camera at first. However, candid and storytelling shots have much more value in my eyes. And now that I am in continuous shooting all of the time, they became accustomed to the camera pointing on them and finally lost their interest in posing. After these three weeks of the workshop I have over a hundred photographs ready for printing.

That said, it's a known fact that an inevitable part of a learning process is that photographs are going to become worse before an improvement happens. It's because learning always includes leaving your comfort zone. And we are all newbies outside of it.

Now let me share one of our walks from the past weekend.

Veronika was sleeping at her dad's that night and the morning started with walking to pick her. It was raining in the wee hours, but the sun got out of the clouds right when we were ready to head out and made everything shiny and sparkling! The grass twinkled with little diamonds of a dew in the slanting rays of the low morning sun.

Six-months anniversary of our little girl!

Guess who's here six-months old? Hooray for our little baby-girl Marge!

She grew and changed a lot over the past month. We overcame her first illness. It was just an ordinary cold but it was new to her, I might say it was scarring for her, and totally deprived her and eventually us of sleep.

And then, one day I had that one of the coolest moments with baby when you return into the room and don't find your baby where you had left him, because the non-moving-up-till-now baby crawled to the other side of the room! As for Marge, she doesn't particularly crawl, she rotates her body in the direction that she wants to take and then she moves backwards which is completely the opposite of her intentions!

Raverly and Photographer's Workshop

Last friday was the Raverly day for me. As I found there a nice pattern to knit a cardigan for Marge, I decided that it's time to acknowledge and get accustomed to this huge resource. I spent a few hours organising my stash there, adding my newly bought skeins and starting a new project. And it really finally kicked me in! I was absolutely delighted by the yarn database that knows even the yarns I bought in a local shop here in Riga. Moreover, I got a nice side effect from this -- my knowledge base about yarns grew a lot as a result. Now I know what does ply number mean and how to measure wpi (wraps per inch). Also I've become a bit more competent in yarn weights and it's all in one day! It's a really cool place for knitters, crocheters and other yarn crafts lovers.

Marge's cardigan has almost been knitted. I wouldn't normally choose such a big (as for a non-knitter) project for me, but all of the raverly inspiration did the job! I took a lot of pictures during the process in a case I would like to repeat the success, what can be seen on my raverly profile here.

There is one more thing that makes me very happy this week -- Karen's Russell Photographers' Workshop has started yesterday and I'm in (as auditing student though)! See the banner on the right panel? I like a lot what's happening there so far. I'm planning to be committed to the course as much as I can with a little baby in one hand and hoping to get a lot from there as a photographer. I feel like my dreams are coming true! And here is what past students say about this workshop!

Evening stroll

8 PM. Gorgeous skies with clouds like chips of cotton wool.

And ten minutes later...

And five minutes later...

And three minutes later...

And then I decided, as kids except Marge left me alone for this evening, that nothing stops me from getting outside right at this late time and hitting a supermarket for a circular needles for knitting. And it's a shame, I didn't find them there. Though I bought a little bit more supplies for kindergarten as I ran into some serious discounts...

Before entering the store:

After exiting the store:

Oh what a marvellous evening! No, summer definitely is not done yet! The air that smells like a bit of countryside meadows and a bit of a fireplace. The skies have these pastel shades before the sunset. Midges dancing a waltz around street lamps.. Two bicyclist went by me -- this is a long forgotten feeling of riding home by bike under the dusking skies and listening to the singing cicadas when there is no sign of a wind and it's already got chilly.

And look, it seems that a man seen in the top left window is taking a picture back!

Off to a yarn shop

Now that Anastasia's school adaptation days are over, and she is starting to have longer classes, I have a little bit more time for myself. Today I spent this time getting downtown, having a stroll through Riga parks and visiting a yarn shop.

When the REAL camera steps in

I have a pleasant morning ritual. As people drink their coffee and read newspapers in the morning, I enjoy a cup of hot black tea and reading blogs I follow. Those are mostly craft themed.

Actually, the reality is a bit different now. After our Marge arrived, it's more like I'm drinking my tea while watching Marge hanging out on the floor and reading new blog posts while feeding Marge in the bedroom. Frankly speaking, my morning tea time is something I miss very much, but I know that Marge will get older in the blink of an eye and I'll be back to normal.

Family road trip with Marge

Delphinarium in Klaipeda

We went on a little road trip to Klaipeda last weekend. It's a town on Baltic sea shore in Lithuania, that is known by such a geographical point of interest like the Curonian Spit. We planned to visit a Dinopark on our way to Klaipeda. And that would happen in the Saturday's evening. The Dolphin show and Sea Museum of Klaipeda were our next day targets.

Enough of rain! Please?

One rainy week has ended, another one has started.
That's it. I'm officially tired of our "summer" weather. Seriously, we have three running noses here including mine and Marge's. I personally have caught cold for the second time this month, though I am quite immune to all of the ARD usually.

Because all of our illnesses and because the oldest daughters back has ached to be massaged long time ago already, the most frequent destination of our walk this week was a policlinic.

Even library takes only the second place, though we visited it twice last week (though we are quite a readers, it seems I overdid this time. We took 6 books all together and have to read them until the weekend after the coming one).

This picture was taken right after visiting the policlinic.

Ok.

So there was a bit of sunshine too. But that day was marked by another memorable incident. When we came to the clinic to apply Anastasia for the massage, there was a long line to the cabinet. While we waited for our turn, Marge became hungry. The space we were in was too narrow and too crowdy, so it was decided to go one floor down and feed her there in silence. I prepared to feed Marge and big sisters helped me with our stuff. Then Veronika went out of the room to drop her empty juice package into a recycle bin in the hall. After a moment she ran back crying with a bleeding nose. She told me, that a big man ran into her without even noticing it. After we helped her to calm down and stopped the blood, we were so impressed by the situation, that didn't notice we were lacking two bags! We remembered about it in a half an hour or so. Luckily, the bags were left near the massage room and nobody had touched the bags there.

Marge got some new skills in the past few days. She started grabbing things with her hands pretty intentionally, which brought me a new inconvenience, because she grabs my skin with her tiny but yet very strong fingers during breastfeeding times. That's why it was decided to crochet a teething necklace in the nearest future.

The necklace was done almost in the same day. There were chosen shades of warm red and cold blue, because I have two slings of these colours. The truth is I have much more of them, not just these two. These just are the most comfortable to wear with Marge. I adore baby wearing and slings actually entirely replaced me a baby carriage with the second daughter. So I have my collection of six or so ring slings of different colours and one long scarf.

And here you can see, how the necklace matches the slings..

and me..

However, despite all of my baby wearing experience, I prefer using a baby carriage with Marge. Either I'm getting old, or she is indeed too heavy for me (8 kilos in a little bit more than three months). I'm still wearing her in the cradle position most of the times. We tried the Kangaroo hold yesterday, but this didn't bring me much relief, because eight kilos remain eight kilos.

It's a good thing we have a little forest here, so we can walk there relatively dry even when it drizzles.

Another my achievement of this week was crocheted mobile with flower-shaped rattles. A wide jam jar lid became a round base for my mobile and a round pattern for mandala from Lucy at Attic24 made a gorgeous decoration of the base. I'm sorry, I hadn't enough time to take some nicer picture of it.

One more thing that kept me "alive" this week was a participation in #capturingcolor on the Instagram started by "capture by Lucy". This week was yellow.

I wish, this rainy days were over! And how do you spend wet and gloomy summer days like we have it here?

Ligo in Riga

Citizens of our country have one day in a year when all big malls are closed all day long. It's a day of a summer solstice that is celebrated by latvians nationwide in the midnight between 23d and 24th of June and is called "Ligo".

Despite the fact, that we all love the idea of a big summer holiday here, it is the meanest holiday of Latvia. It rains here every Ligo day!

Our holidays were also saddened by Veronika's illness. She got sick right before four vacation days. Actually, I don't remember her being ill so hard and for so long anytime before -- high temperature, ache in the ear, throat and stomach for at least 4 days and 5 nights.

During daughter's illness we watched all our home collection of movies for kids. I think they won't ask me for more for it for weeks. Personally I had discovered Pocahontas movie to be a very beautiful, wise and filled with positive messages and positive role models tale (yes, I had never seen it before).

Me with my husband and Marge visited downtown thanks to my mom, who came to babysit Veronika a few hours. The Centre of Riga was almost deserted, because most of the citizens prefer to celebrate this holiday in a countryside.

Not long after our arrival it started raining.

We hoped to find some of a festive action at the Dome Square, but sadly there was nothing to see too.

Just puddles after rains and some passersby with umbrellas...

The square near the Liberty monument didn't look festive either.

Pour tourists under umbrellas -- I wonder how did they like cold, rainy and nearly empty Riga with all malls closed celebrating Ligo.

Though our Riga looks beautiful even covered with water.

And of course, the sun went out of clouds right when we arrived to a bus station and were ready to leave the downtown.
